Are you on the GRASS routine for your skin?
You may be wondering what is the GRASS routine, do I have to mow it, and why should I be doing it? GRASS is the acronym used to break down each category of skin care products you should use to achieve your best skin results.
GRASS stands for Growth factors, Retinoid, Antioxidants, Serum and Specialty, and SPF. Not only does Dr. Parker recommends this for all of her patients, but it is nationally recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists.
Here we will break it down for you so you can use this routine in combination with your medical aesthetics services to achieve your best skin yet!
G-Growth Factors: These are natural proteins that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the skin a.k.a great for anti-aging, correcting fine lines and wrinkles, and enhancing skin texture and tone. Dr.Parker recommends SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum for your growth factor skincare.
R-Retinoid: Retinol, retinoid, and tretinoin are all compounds related to vitamin A. Using retinoids will increase cell turnover to renew the skin and reverse signs of photo-aging (sun damage). SkinBetter’s AlphaRet night cream is a great retinol treatment that will enhance your skin without peeling irritation.
A-Antioxidant: Our skin is exposed to free radicals on a daily basis. It is important to protect your skin from these radicals in order to prevent thedegradation of skin cells over time. Antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E are all effective antioxidants to protect your skin. Dr. Parker recommends Obagi Professional-C Serum or SkinBetter Alto Defense Serum.
S-Serum/Specialty: These are the products and serums that are specific for your aesthetic goals and skin type. These include eye creams and serums, pigmentation correction, acne products, etc. We recommend booking a general consultation so you can discuss your perfect skincare plan with Dr. Parker or our medical esthetician Autumn.
S-Sun Protection: Last but certainly not least, it is extremely important to use a physical-only SPF every day (yes we said every day) to prevent signs of aging, sun damage, and ultimately skin cancer. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide sit on the surface of the skin to block UVA and UVB rays from damaging the skin. We recommend Elta MD UV Physical or UV Elements for a physical-only sunblock.
“One of the three parts of aging is texture changes and discoloration of the skin. The GRASS routine is a simple, clinically proven way to improve and prevent these changes at home.”-Dr. Parker on the GRASS routine
